the machine uses a drum to apply "road force" to the tire while it is being analyzed (spinning) for balance and how true the wheel/tire combo spins. the machine can then dectect high/low spots in the rim or tire and advises the tech the optimal position to mount the tire for the smoothest ride.

it also measures run out (side to side movement) and uses a laser to offer the tech a few different options on where to place the balancing weights.

there's more to it than that, but long story short it allows the tech to balance the tire under a load which will more accurately predict how the tire will rotate on the road versus the free spinning machines that only measure counter weighting balance and leaves it up to the tech's judgment on how to mount the tire.

when I had my Nitto/Method combo originally installed they spun pretty true on the conventional balancing machine so i just went with that because i was used to having some vibration anyway. prior to my first rotation I asked for road force balancing and according to the machine my setup was way out of balance. they road force balanced all 4 tires and i was impressed at how smooth the ride was.

Great information. Thank you. I have never heard off that either. Will added it to my vocabulary. Next time the need arises I will sound like I know what I am talking about... "Hey guys make sure you Road Force balance those tires or else"
