My son encouraged me to drive a Gen 1 when they first hit the dealer in 2010 and I was super impressed. But - two kids were in high school and it turns out that we funded out-of-state tuition - times two - so the Raptor went on the back burner - until last week.
I thought I wanted a 2014, one owner, no accidents, low mile unit - with a blower. I live in Northern Virginia and figured that would take up to six months but be dooable. Wrong - so I shifted to a 2018 and found an 802A with under 5,500 miles in Leadfoot through FB Marketplace at the Ted Britt Ford dealership in Fairfax, VA.
So I grab my 26 year old "car-guy" son and my checkbook and off we went.
I know - "grabbed your checkbook"? Yessiree Bob - I bought Apple stock years ago. BTW - it's current price will double within 24 months (medical monitoring and 5G alone) so you folks might want to "invest" in your retirement by buying APPL stock now.
They wanted $68k and I wanted to pay a lot less. Long story short - $66k for the truck and one check was written.
My son knew tons more about Raptors than any of the salespeople at the dealership. He even told the salesperson that if they didn't budge on the price that we were going to walk out - drive up to Rockville, MD and buy a new 2019 Raptor for just a few grand more - from a vending machine !! I honestly feel that the current car dealership model is rapidly going out the window.
My wife was NOT too excited at this purchase, until she sat in it. I knew I had her when she said that the dog's bed will go "right there" for road trips.
For the last 10 plus years I have worried that the Silver Maple tree next to the driveway would crush one of my cars. I had a tree service eliminate the tree the day prior to getting the Raptor.
Supposed to get my Backflip bed cover tomorrow and then I'm set... NOT - what exhaust system would you guys recommend to make a few more ponies and yield a slightly more demonic exhaust note?
Thanks for listening and I'm glad to be part of this group... Stuart Herder
