Not sure what the appeal of the Tundra is to you, but I briefly considered one a few years ago because the back seat was spacious but they had problems with shaking or loose beds or something to that extent. Got a Tacoma and that thing drove like a ****. I still loved it though, but I traded up for a Raptor and it is so much fun to drive, it’s spacious and comfortable. I guess you could say it drives like diarrhea? Smooth and fast? I don’t know, just wanted To keep the analogy going.

Really, I'd like to see an answer to this. I just can't wrap my head around why someone who has the means and desire, and doesn't need the hauling/towing of a 3/4 ton, would want something other than the Raptor. I don't get the logic when it's apples and oranges like this.

Look, I don't want to get into some ridiculous debate on why a person would consider a Tundra and a Raptor at the same time.

On the Raptor facebook group recently, there was a poll on who's had cam phaser issues and who hasn't. 800 people voted and 200 of those 800 people said they had cam phaser issues. 25% is fair amount of people. Again, this doesn't really fully represent everyone out there. However, if the running joke about the 3.5 EB engines are cam phasers, then it's not exactly a uncommon issue.

This really kept me wanting to turn away from the Raptor, but once I figured out that extended warranty is only ~$2k, then it was basically a no brainer. I am in. This isn't going to be my only vehicle, so if it had issues, I have no problem leaving it with the dealer for an extended period of time.

Personally, at this point, I am fairly committed into getting a Ford. However, I am starting to really consider getting the 2021 F150 over a 2020 Raptor as well. I plan on changing out a lot of the body/suspension of the truck to run a mid travel set up anyways. The idea of the hybrid engine seems interesting, getting maybe 700 miles per tank and possibly being able to run some electronic devices right off of the truck when camping. Plus, it may give me a similar engine platform that the future Raptor may get anyways. The V8 raptor is most likely going to be priced too high for what I'd be interested in anyways, so that one isn't even really a consideration for me.

Toyota makes a solid product, no doubt. I can see comparing it to a standard half ton (Ford/Ram/Chevy) Truck, but the Raptor is a whole different truck. I think you’ll find the Raptor a serious upgrade over the Tundra in every department except for towing capacity.

That's what I have read. I went on Tundra forums to see what ex Raptor owners said and went on Raptor forums to see what ex Tundra owners said. That gave me the best perspective on things. Everyone who had a Raptor said it's best truck experience you can get off the lot. Guys who got Tundras mainly got them because they had reliability issues with their Fords, but said they all said they really still enjoyed their Raptors when they had them.

You're right, that debate would be ridiculous. You can't compare a foreign company's half-assed attempt to build a pickup with an F-150, let alone a Raptor. The Tundra can't even pass the most basic F-Series durability tests, it's outdated by 2 generations, and it has received poor crash test ratings.

On the Raptor facebook group recently, there was a poll on who's had cam phaser issues and who hasn't. 800 people voted and 200 of those 800 people said they had cam phaser issues. 25% is fair amount of people. Anyone can post or say anything on FB. Without actual owners being verified, those results are meaningless. I have seen the warranty data, and your 25% number is way off base. We're talking about a failure rate of less than 1/10th of 1%. However, to be transparent, that is still a few thousand trucks in the context of the F-150, which sells in hundreds of thousands of units per year. As far as "running jokes", that should be relegated to Toyota products that can't keep a frame under their bodies for more than a few years after the warranty expires. They turn to swiss cheese and are sent to the scrapyard. Hence the $3.4 Billion lawsuit that they lost.

Unlike Toyota, Ford identified the issue from the supplier and implemented an initial corrective action to tighten the tolerances and then redesigned the service part for vehicles with the concern. The Tundra cam tower leak has been ongoing since 2007 and is still occurring on brand new 2020 models..what has Toyota done? Nothing. Their customer base is brainwashed, and Toyota can do no wrong in their eyes.

People who buy Tundras, or any Toyota, have the mindset that everything else is "unreliable" except for the antiquated junk that they wasted their money on. Reading those forums, the majority of them would never consider buying American, and would rather bleed out on their floor than ride to the hospital in a Ford, RAM, or GM ambulance. They're just that ignorant and brainwashed, which is how they justify buying an outdated, ugly, poor performing, slow, inefficient vehicle with poor crash test ratings. And when it ends up in the shop out of warranty spending thousands of dollars to have the A.I.R. system and cam tower oil leaks repaired, they justify it by saying how much worse it would have been if it hadn't been a Toyota. It's a brainwashed cult that borders on downright disturbing.

To keep things as relevant as possible, I only read the posts on there made by ex gen 2 Raptor owners.

Understood, but in my experience that is hard to distinguish, especially on a forum with so many biased members. You have to remember they're buying the worst selling (except for Titan which is irrelevant), least safe, and most outdated pickup for sale in the US, so they're intrinsically less likely to admit their own issues and much more likely to fabricate stories to justify their purchase of said vehicle. As I said before, these are not normal or mentally well people.
