I got this working but trying to understand the point or maybe I didn't go about it right, so someone help me out.

I can turn my iPhone into a hotspot with a password. I enable Wi-Fi in the truck and have it connect to my iPhone. Then the truck has its own hotspot SSID with a password. I can connect to the truck with other devices now.

So why not have other devices connect directly to my iPhone hotspot and just bypass the truck all together? My only logic for you to do this and for the only reason is you do not want to tell others your iPhone hotspot password but in reality you can always change it so to me it doesn't matter. Or does it extend the range if you want other devices like at a camp site but then you have to leave it running.

What am I not getting on this what appears to be a useless feature?

IMHO I think it is worthless. I got it working once before just to see if it would work but I found no real use for it. It there where apps on the Ford Touch System that would use it that would be different. There is no reason to use it as a second hotspot inside the truck.

I'd probably say it extends the range. The bluetooth system has really good range in it. I can be working on my truck in the garage and go to the house to cool down. Easily 50 feet away and through the walls I can still hear my music playing through the truck.

I do not believe this has anything to do with bluetooth, it does Wi-Fi

Really the only useful part is if you have a USB 3g/4g card that you can install in the USB port and then have the truck create an AP for that stick. That way you would not need a PC to be running to utilize the usb stick.

Didn't think of that but if my phone will do hotspot for only $20 a month, a lot less than getting another plan or adding to it. That does make sense though, thanks!

I think (with the exception of plugging in a USB cellular modem) it's mostly a "golly gee whiz" feature.

Some USB tongles only allow max 4 connections to it... so if you have a lot of devices, then it might make sense to go through the Ford wifi hotspot...

You can get a 4G WiFi puck from your local cell carrier and USB connect it to your truck. Then your truck acts as the router. Same concept for using your phone, but it'll kill your battery and you can have generic log in info and not give out info for your personal phone to your coworkers. You know, because everyone uses the raptor as a work truck. Likely just a feature that was already there.
