was finally ready to take the plunge and order my '13. i live in topeka ks, and the dealer is in KC. i could only find one dealer in KC with raptors on the lot (not the one i was gonna do business with) and i hadnt driven one yet, so i was gonna cruise over and drive one of theirs and then on to the dealer who'd quoted me $300 over invoice.
pulled up, got out, the swarm came. "i want to drive this raptor." saleman replied "we dont let people test drive specialty vehicles. are yu going to buy it?"
wtf?
me > "i aint driving it, i aint buying it. goodbye"
ten minutes later im behind the wheel. yu people werent kidding. amazing vehicle.
"thanks for letting me drive it. goodbye" (i did show him a copy of the $300 over invoice quote i had before i drove off just to see what theyd do. he just laughed at me)
get the trade-in quote from the salesman at the next place. almost $2500 below
what nada and kbb had it valued at (i showed em the printouts). 08 ford 4x4 ranger id babied , in cherry condition, with linexed bed and rails, and gy duratrac 31's with less than 15000 miles on em (over $800 on tirerack). this slap in the face coming from a dealership id purchased 2 new rangers from since 04. "let me go talk to my manager." you do that.
"since youre a repeat customer, we'll go up $500"
me>"goodbye"
what is the purpose of sites like nada and kbb if their info for the buyer isnt valued by the dealerships? i expected some disparity, especially with the initial offer, but $2500? id love to get a raptor, and i will eventually, but ive taken too good a care of my ranger to give it away. good thing ive got another dealer offering $300 over invoice. hope THEY dont ask me to bend over and take it up the arse.
no wonder people dread the whole car buying experience.
