I would buy a new one. Probably way more efficient and reliable. I would also make the inheritied one a little project to fix it by taking the plug out or drilling a hole tapping it and making a new crane. I’m an old guy who loves old tools and keeping them for the love of all old stuff. My garage is a bit of a conversation room cause I save everything! Never know when you might need it. Just my thoughts.

Buy a new tank or new compressor and put a SS ball valve on the bottom of it so you can drain it periodically. If there's water sloshing around and with the age of the tank it has the potential to be compromised with rust. I've never seen one blow up but I also don't think I'd want to.
