I have seen a couple pictures of guys mounting their race radios in the center console. My question is are they mounting the radio mount straight to the inner plastic of the console with basic screws or? The plastic feels thick by tapping on it, so maybe using six or eight screws is enough to hold the weight of the radio?

thank you

Im mounted directly to the console wall. I used 4 short wood screws. Its completely solid.

My radio has a remote face that I ran to the sun glass holder and the mic is mounted near the inverter outlet. I ran all the wires under the carpet, loosened the console enough to lift it a few inches and had them all come up under the console to the inside.

I am using a remote head TK790. If you watch ebay, you'll see refurb PCI race radios TK790s come up for sale for around $500. ( which is WAY better than paying $1500 for a new one.)

I mounted the actual radio behind the rear passenger side seat ( removed the useless factory jack).

The head is mounted in the center console in the forward sliding door compartment.

I had to relief cut the floor portion of it directly in front of the usb ports so the door could close, but now i can simply slide the door shut and it disappears.

Dont mount it it inside the console. Mount the radio behind the back seat, and the head like I do on the installs we do here =)

Look here: http://www.fordraptorforum.com/f266/vhf-radio-mounting-looks-factory-57162/

that's great and all, but you can't close the console door to hide the radio head with that plate.

If you relief cut the front bin floor in front of the USB ports, a TK790 head fits just fine, USB ports remain usable and the door closes without interference.

Not sure why you would want to close the door, and have the radio that low in there...hard to see and get to.

Never had any issues with theft if thats what your worried about....
