Just ordered a magnaflow catback, 5 star tune, and middle perch adjustment for my 11' screw from outlaw raptor...I decided against the CAI mainly for money purposes, and exhaust was my #1 priority.

My question....should I do a CAI instead of the middle perch adjustment? I drive my truck 85-90% on the road and is my DD.

How will the tune affect the truck with no CAI...seems like everyone here has a tune with CAI. Thanks for your help. If I went CAI was thinking about volant or airade, but I heard airrade has issues with remote start.

I'd say to get the most out of your tune you should do a CAI. The middle perch would be easy to do on your own if you're mechanically inclined.

My truck is still on the lowest perch and I've had zero issues off roading it and doing pretty much everything, so I'd say you'd be safe to stay on the bottom for a bit if you wanted to do a CAI instead.

Pretty much everything he said......doing the perch really isn't that hard bud, I've got it down to just over an hour :waytogo:

If the CAI you install draws air from under hood its useless...If you can get one that will draw its air from the stock air location ok otherwise its drawing hot air and it will reduce your trucks performance...

^ Agreed 100%.

An engine is a big airbox, so you want to let air come in better and leave better. Doing the exhaust without CAI is pointless, unless you just want better sound.

I believe CAI, exhaust and the 5 star tune are the 3 best performance mods you can do under $1000 total.

Hmm... All the volants I have seen and the one on the web site look like they have the opening st the bottom of the filter box and still draw air from under the hood....

You are right but that opening matches up pretty well with a hole in the fender for outside air

The question this brings to my mind then is this; What would you suggest? I ask this as someone who's waiting for my truck and just planning. I'm also coming from no previous knowledge other than a clear understanding of how the CAI works.

I've not seen any systems that really isolate the engine compartment though I can honestly say I've not seen all the available options.

I'd love to have some input from you more experienced motor heads as to which intake provides the best solution.

Thanks,

~BGM
