Mid perch and stuck set screw

These are screw extractors/easyouts. They are available at Sears, Auto parts stores , and hardware store. Some fit in drills, but if you go this route, just try using them by hand. GL

Did one today. Low mileage shock. Took it to the shop and had the spring removed. Took the shock body back to my shop. Set screw seriously stuck. Just drilled the dang thing out and moved the collar and snap ring. Took it back to the shop and had the spring reinstalled. Took about 45 minutes total. Total PITA.....

Yeah I'm thinking drilling is my only option cause if I break the extractor in the hole then I'm totally screwed since extractors should be made of hardened steel

Just make sure everything is in line after you drill it and you'll be fine. Drill a little bit at a time and the collar moves like it should. Had to beat on this one with a 2x4 buffer, though. And this was a low mileage shock.....
