The Raptor community has always confused me in this regard. They'll spend $300+ on a "cold air intake" to get .3 hp but won't fill the tank with premium to get 10+ hp and peace of mind. It's a nice truck. Give it the best fuel.

Your concept is valid but you statement is not. Higher octane will not give you any HP gains, just increase knock resistance. Modern fuel injection may reduce power if knocking is detected, but not that much. You can not gain 10+hp form premium fuel and you will not lose 10+hp if the computer reduces ignition timing because lower octane fuel is causing a knock.

That being said, it is ridiculous to be cheap on fuel after dropping $70k on a new truck.

You really don't think you'd lose 10 horsepower from spark retard? The Gen 1 owners manual said it made 401 horsepower on regular and 411 on premium. I'd be willing to bet the difference is even larger on a higher output turbo motor.

I'd be surprised to see real world results exceed 10% loss

It was night and day difference in my gt500 running 91 crappy premium vs running good fresh 93 ethanol. Pinged/knocked like crazy with 91 premium compared to 93 ethanol. I wouldn't doubt that it was at least 30hp loss between the two and a lot more throttle response down low.

You absolutely DO gain horsepower with these engines when using premium fuel as compared to regular fuel. The only way to get the published HP/TQ number is to run premium fuel.
