Magellan Explorist trx7

I've been thinking about adding a dedicated navigation system and was leaning towards a Lowrance HDS 7. However I just came across this and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this new Magellan. Not being particularly computer savvy, what do the tech forum members think of the specs?
At $649.00 on the Magellan website; does this seem to be a viable competitor for the Lowrance?

Looks like an interesting device, I think I would want to play with one a little. Nice that you can side load additional android apps that don't need the play store. Maps seem to limited to the US and CA, no MX coverage.

Interesting. My hangup with the Lowrance was its single purpose use. This looks like it can do more.

I think most of the runs I have been on have routes in motion x and lowrance. I run an iPad with motion x so I am not sure if they also prepare maps compatible for Magellan. You might ask around about that also.
