GEN 2 Low profile or standard saddle toolbox. Can't make up my mind

Have narrowed choice down to black gloss Weatherguard low profile 121-5-01 or standard 127-5-02.

Don't want to mess up the looks of my truck but I really want some storage for holding a recovery kit, jumper cables, etc.

pros and cons?

Standard has tie downs on the box so there's that. Standard size holds more 11.3 cu. feet vs 8.8 cu feet for low profile.

Standard push button locks are on the sides. Easier to get to. Low profile are on the box facing the bed.
This might be a good thing since you would have to get up into the bed to mess with the locks.

Low profile is lower but it's still visible. Does the taller standard size really look "bad" or worse than the low profile?

Talk me into ordering one or the other.

I put all my work junk in a large plastic tote from Lowes and put a backflip bed cover on. Secured the tote with bungie cords, of course. I have room to slide a couple foldable ladders in the bed. Nice thing is the tote takes literally 30 seconds to take out if I need the full bed.

I had a toolbox, or two on the Raptor, and it just doesn't look right to me, plus you loose a lot of bed space if you need it regularly.

Anyway, it works for me and I like it.

Depending on how much gear you plan to carry, just get a du-ha storage bin for under the rear seat. I keep a tow strap, jumper cables, gloves, an MRE or two, etc., plus a couple cheap tarps for emergency shelter or for lying in the dirt in mine. Since I have a Supercab it’s smaller than the box that fits under a crew cab’s rear seat, but still holds most of my basic off road gear.

A couple lockable options available out there too...

Low profile looks better in my opinion, you can still get a cover over it if you want. I went with the 644-05-01 since I am only using it for recovery gear. Plenty of room left. Can still get a spare tire laying flat, or dog kennel and a Yeti 65.
