from what i can see the intercooler features and active fan and is mounted pretty low. anybody knows what's going to happen when in mud or a water crossing? i hope it doesn't involve broken plastic blades if you get my drift?

It's a desert truck. Ford isn't worried about mud or water.

Yea, that'd suck to get yer IC all chock full of mud and have the engine go into limp home mode due to sky high IATs. Don't want to beat the dead horse anymore that it's been, but there are major downsides to not having a large naturally aspirated engine under the hood. Don't worry though, all the construction equipment running in the mud has turbos and intercoolers, so you should be good to go!

It's a potential issue. I'm curious if it's a separate fan or if airflow is just ducted from the radiator fan.

Also curious how necessary it is. The truck in the TFL video was alternating between being run pretty hard and then idling, which is worst case for heat buildup, so it could be that the fan doesn't run so much in normal use.

The fan could also be a plus. It may be the reason that Foutz is able to block off the intake with lights; i.e., with a fan running you don't necessarily have to have direct airflow since it will just pull air from anywhere it can.

sure hope that fan holds up with all the deflected/reflective pavement heat that it will be exposed to most of the time, I hate getting stranded when I come out with cold beer
