I've got a pretty loud clunking sound coming from the rear end of my 19 (stock springs, 38K miles). It's most noticeable when I'm backing out of the driveway and pulling into the driveway at an angle. It sounds like something is rocking side-to-side.

Everything seems to be tight and I can't duplicate the noise bouncing the truck and it doesn't happen when I hit bumps straight on. Any ideas on what else I can check? Removed everything from the bed, took the locking hitch pin out, spare is tight, everything I've pulled on or banged with a rubber mallet in the suspension seems to be tight.

Here are some potential causes and areas to investigate:
1. U-joints or CV shafts: Although you've checked the suspension, it's possible that the U-joints or CV shafts are worn or loose, causing the clunking sound. Inspect these components closely.
2. Rear differential mounts: The rear differential mounts might be worn or loose, allowing the differential to move slightly and cause the clunking sound. Check the mounts and ensure they're secure.
3. Rear track bar: The rear track bar might be loose or worn, causing the axle to shift slightly and produce the clunking sound. Inspect the track bar and its mounts.
4. Leaf spring bushings: Although you mentioned the truck has stock springs, it's possible that the leaf spring bushings are worn or damaged, causing the clunking sound. Inspect the bushings and consider replacing them if necessary.
5. Rear shock absorbers: Worn or damaged rear shock absorbers might be contributing to the clunking sound. Inspect the shocks and consider replacing them if necessary.
