Is it much bigger than the factory sub enclosure being a 10 inch?

Just wondering for those of you that have done this upgrade, is the kicker sub pretty much plug-and-play with the exception of the additional power wire? Looking into this, but don't want to mess anything up as I'm not the most audio savvy person around.

It's a very straight forward installation. The most difficult part (which really isnt very difficult) is tapping into the front speaker wires, but the instructions were very clear on where to find the wires and which ones to tap. The grounding wire even attaches to a factory grounding stud. I originally had rear floor mat under the sub but after it was bolted down, it was very difficult to remove it and I was also afraid that the woofer might hit it. I really don't want to trim my floor mat, so I was thinking about removing some of the padding near the edge of the woofer to give me a little more clearance.

I bit the bullet and purchased the kicker/ford sub upgrade off eBay. My truck has the Sony stereo and according to the info on kickers website, they claim it's incompatible but after researching other ford forums, I found that it will work just fine. The kit came with very detailed installation instructions and all wiring and mounting hardware (mounting hardware is only needed if the truck wasn't previously equipped with a factory sub).

Overall I feel like this is the sub that should have been come with the truck rather than the junk Sony sub and best of all it gets louder as you turn up the volume. The sub doesn't offer ground pounding, **** off your neighbor bass but it definitely does add some thump to the truck. The price was also very reasonable for what you get. I paid $265 with free shipping and because it's a ford part (9L3Z-18808-N) it's also backed by ford.

I'm (hopefully!) picking up a '14 SCREW in black tomorrow, this will be the first (of hopefully many) upgrades i'll be doing. Great writeup, thanks!

I said screw it, went down to the local stereo shop and am getting two 8" JL subs with the JL XD300/1 amp installed in a couple weeks. Since we'll be ripping out the stock "sub", the owner said it'll be an easy install since they can tap those wires for the new amp

Just an update to my thread I pulled the trigger on the Kicker substage last week, bought it for $265 shipped from Rogel Ford. Had it in 2 days, installed in less than 2 hours and it is amazing the difference from stock to the substage. I have to say it is the perfect sound that I was looking for. Very clean, powerful bass. I highly recommend this to any F150 owner. My drive to work is now much more enjoyable.

To echo jmccown, I just added the kicker substage as well, and what a whopper of a difference. The best $300 spent.

The punch is radically better. Now, it ain't no JL W, earth shattering sub, but come on, $300??! Definitely a must do on the truck.

I run the bass level now, around -4. Used to be almost full. I does get a tad bit 'mid-bass' strong, but it's ok. For $300, I'm not complaining!

Looks like people are having great results with the Kicker. Can any one of you whom have already pulled the trigger on it write up a review or step by step instructions on how to go about the upgrade for those of us on the fence and not as knowledgeable. Surely it be much appreciated if not just by me. More pics would be great....wondering why it said it wasn't compatible. Thanks in advance
