The cover weighs about 50 pounds. It will support 400lbs evenly distributed across the top of it.

Not sure where you saw 400lbs installed weight. No bed cover weighs that. Maybe if it was concrete lol

The Lomax bed cover is not designed to open all the way and lean against the back cab. This is another difference between it and say the BakFlip MX4. The Lomax features a quick release so that the entire cover can be removed with one simple tug on a strap allowing the user complete access to the entire bed. And not blocking your view at all out the back window.

This pictures shows the Lomax in it's most open state. If you need even more bed access/space, you simply disconnect the cover itself. For re-installation, it simply snaps back into the rails and you're good to go.

No problemo, that’s why we are here! The lomax is super easy to install BTW and was able to get it done in between south Florida thunderstorms.

I researched the Retrax option as well for a roll up and that would have been my option if I went this route. Seems to be a great cover, but well over double the cost and double the weight. You also lose a little bed space. Again a great option though. I like how I can remove the Lomax in a few mins. If I had to carry something big and it also flips back twice over if you need it.

Not directly on the Lomax, it’s simply a very low profile cover.

Yes it very well is. The Retrax for one has an optional track system you can order it with and then utiliZe a few various name brand cross bars to carry cargo, bikes, etc. I would have went this route if I got the Retrax. But that need isn’t immediate for me and the simplicity of the Lomax works just fine for me right now. The price of the Lomax didn’t make it any type of investment for me at this point either and along with its good looks and functionality otherwise just steered me to it, at this point.
