So can I take it that Lomax is also making them for Weathertech? They honestly look like a nice option and from what I can see, they lay really flush and are thin. Are they strong and have good construction? In most cases reasonably water tight?

The only thing I noticed is you have to open the tailgate to gain access to the cover release? Nothing external to do this correct? If the tailgate is locked, your cover is as well? Decent security? I would like to be able to gain access from the top and not have to always open the tailgate. But if the tailgate method works I’d like to hear from others who are happy with it?

Thanks

Yes WeatherTech is a rebranded Lomax. These covers are constructed very well and do a great job at keeping water out. There is no external method to open the cover .The idea is if you tail gate is closed and locked now there is no way someone can get into your bed, keeping it secure. The Lomax has been very popular with our customers. If you would like a quote please feel free to message me and we can offer you a great forum price with FREE shipping as well

I've had mine for two months and love it. Well made, very secure and looks great. I got mine from Rick at Freedom Motorsports/Got Exhaust. Great price and great customer service.

Updating after installing my Lomax this morning. My notes:

- Solid price from Nick@gotexhaust so thanks for that. All vendors seem to have good pricing, just who I chose to go with.

- The clamps that fix the rails to the bed call for 20 ft/lbs of torque. This seemed incredibly high to me as even little shavings of aluminum were coming from the clamps as I tightened them down. Decided not to go to 20, probably around 15-16.

- Odd to me that the panel edges of the cover are bare aluminum, but perhaps a sharpie can fix that.

- The rubber seals on the panel covers were a little off at the rear corners. Just be aware of this and I’m guessing will be the culprit of any peeling in the next year. Perhaps I got one that wasn’t caught on QC. No biggie, just something I’ll keep an eye on.

- Install is easy to do as one person. Just take your time and get the clamps on one at a time ensuring the seal on the aluminum rails are lined up straight and flush to the bed rail.

- Cover appears to be pretty solid in design and is great for the Vince point.

Yeah, I have been reading similar complaints about the quality control. Although most people seem to be pleased so it sounds like a bit of a gamble.

the “bakflip” type tonneaus have a # of design flaws. I had gator brand back in day essentially same thing

they’re not weather proof even when the drain tubes are working properly. Water will get in the bed- they don’t deny that anyhow- but just know, stuff in the bed will get damp

the weather stripping material in between each panel running horizontally started peeling away from the seams allowing water filtration & also allowed water to penetrate between the composite/AL sandwich of the middle panel & when it freezed caused the panel to bulge

the weather stripping on the rails would freeze & freeze to the tailgate- this isn’t unheard of on different types of tonneaus- but happened every time to me w/ that type.

in spring/fall/summer the drainage tubes would get clogged, in summer they can smell funky grow mildew etc

they all require their own inner rail system vs sitting atop the trucks bed rails, therefore - gotta watch bout bulky heavy/rugged stuff smashing into/damaging the inner rails & hardware. Can’t sit on bed sides anymore comfortably due to the rails.

I guess they look cool & are expensive though, so there’s that ;-)

The Lomax has worked great for me. Very functional and has been super water tight. I live in a wet area and it keeps the bed dry. Even during a tropical storm with almost a foot of rain dropped and high winds.

I wished the covers metal edge was coated as well. The raw metal color isn’t that great, but lucky it’s a very thin edge maybe .125”

I tested a sharpie marker on the front side edge as a test. It colored it nicely. However it’s faded some over the last several months. So it won’t be permanent. But if you don’t mine redoing it every several months it’s an option. I may try a firearms finish touch up pen and see how that goes. It should be thicker and more durable.

True Lomax makes it for Weathertech. To me that says a lot. But we know it’s a great cover at a good price.
