I installed a locking lug nut on each of my wheels when I purchased my 2018 over 2 years ago. I am now at 50,000+ miles and have rotated my tires every 5-7k miles. As a result the locking lug is starting to wear down. I just replaced my first set of KO2's with the same and am debating whether to put the original lug back on or get new locks. I am not sure these locks do anything anyway as a lot of the key patterns are similar if not the same. How many people actually use a locking lug.. is it even worth the time to buy a new set?

I’ve never worn out a set of lock nuts, in particular McGard.

They’re pretty durable as long as you don’t use an impact gun on them. I remember a tire shop damaging a set on one of our first cars.

I got a set on my cars but I’m careful with them and only install them by hand. I garage my cars so might not be necessary.

Most of my rotations have been at the dealer, so I think they kind of abuse the locks with their impact gun. I too garage my truck when at home so not a big deal.

Yeah, unfortunately it’s all about how fast the tech can do the job.
