The diameter on the hole is small but needs a long shackle so thought I would ask before purchasing one and going through trial n' error.

If your worried about bears, a simple bolt would work great (see pic). Another option would be a cable lock which would allow you to lock the cooler "to" something. There are also competitors who sell padlocks specifically for this type cooler. GL

We've purchased several through Home Depot or Lowe's. We've always used Master Lock and just chosen one of the thinner shaft models. A 1.75" or 2" should do the trick! Thanks!
