I just installed the 1fg yesterday. It sounds like the CJ Pony video and not like the AWE video at all. Lots of drone in the cab and has a terrible blaat sound on initial take off. Once it’s up in the higher rpm’s fully pinned it sounds pretty good. I’ll be switching it to the 2fg version to see if it’s any better. Currently the drone is very tiring driving around town.
I had the exact same problem after mine was installed last Friday. I did contact the customer service at AWE and was told to let the exhaust breaking in for 800-1000 mile. They also mentioned that they call out 40 ft-lbs as their minimum but feel free to go tighter if you are experiencing any leaks. I'll double check all the clamps, making sure no gaps in the meantime.
Fiancees said she loves the new exhaust sound. She thought the stock exhaust was weak. We need to get married.
Update: I'm happy to report that 400 miles after the installation, the sound has settled, became deeper and deeper, and most of the drones were gone (except 1 notable drone between 45-55 mph). I was surprised that breaking in the exhaust would have so much impact on the volume, tone, and frequency/drone. Hopefully, that last drone would be gone in another 400 miles!!
