What LED WHIP Lights did you buy/install? Where'd you get them? How'd you install them.

Interesting. I think they are not legal for on road use in Michigan. You can have white, amber, red only I believe. I am not sure about blue. I think that I heard blue lights are good for the snow but I may be wrong. I believe they are still not legal in Michigan. Those look like the output is not that great either but who knows. I suppose that you could put them on for off roading but it looks like more of a thing for a razor or gator or quad. Does anyone know if you can run these in California where they are made on the road legally?

Whip lights are used off road to look kinda cool and maybe help other people see you at places that require you to run a flag, usually the dunes. However in California there are certain light colors that you're not allowed to run even off road and they have been cracking down on this at glamis.

SDHQ is installing a white quick light for me. Hopefully I'll get it back soon and I can take some pics.

Edit: Also, the led whips will put out more light but the fiber optic ones are going to look cooler.

Red and blue are probably the most popular colors for whip lights and technically you're not supposed to have them so the rangers have really been after them at glamis. Any rock lighting, whips, or accent lighting that isn't an approved color will get you a ticket if they spot you. I'm not sure if this is happening at other cali ohv parks.

I'm getting a white 6' fiber optic quick light from SDHQ. http://www.quick-light.com

Fiber optic whips are gonna look cleaner with the even lighting while the individual leds will be visible but also brighter.

ps Their hood mount brackets for Gen 1 are STOUT...1/4" steel, slotted bolt holes for adjustment, and vibration free!

Thanks DITCH! (Eddie in Montauk) - good idea and I'll do that.

I had a blue Whip on my Jeep and loved the color (LED) but I know the PoPo are not happy with red and blue lights on vehicles so I don't want to tempt them.

I think I'll go with Amber. Maybe

What I want to know is what kind of hardware (quick release) etc. come with each company's Whips. I'll check their website(s) to find out.

I can only speak for the Tribal Whips' WhipZilla.
The mount is a machined aluminum vertically slotted tube with a solid base which is drilled for the mounting bolt head, (stainless steel allen head cap screw), with a quick release pin about 1/2" from the base. The whip itself has horizontal relief near the base that locks the whip in the base when the quick release pin is in place. The electrical power wires slide in the vertical slot; then go to a small transformer then a standard 2 pin connector.
When the locking pin is in place it is not possible to spin the whip, (as well as locking it in place), thus protecting the wires.
The bottom bolt's head is recessed into the base so that the inside of the mount is flush at the base. You will need a long > then 3" , allen wrench, (6mm?) to tighten the stainless steel bolt.
Well made and clever design; close tolerances with the whip shaft such that there is virtually no play even with out the locking pin in place.
You WILL have excellent customer care with Alternative Offroad!
