Everyone has said that when wired like the instructions state that come with the kicker it doesn't sound right. When you wire it like stated it this thread it sounds better. Sucks that you have to go to a shop again. If you were near SLO I would check how the installer wired it up

I appreciate it man, but I'll figure something out. I may go back to the shop that did it and ask if they still by chance have the stock harness for the sub. The grumbling noise is almost even livable...but once you hear it and pay attention to it, then it starts driving you crazy. If I can get the stock sub harness back, I'll definitely do it that way. Does seem like people are having great results that way. maybe I'll even see if I could buy a new harness through tasca or some shit

Thanks man, yeah, he did seem to rip out the whole stock harness deal for the stock sub. Don't know where that is at now. I searched around in there tonight and did see what I think you are talking about with the power cord coming from the battery and going to the sub. The installer definitely did run the power straight to the battery.

I haven't been able to spot the brown and green wire harness deal that should have come with the kit, either installed or in the box of extras. I have some suspiciouns that he might not have installed that. I think I am going to try to get to a shop again and see what they say. I'm trying to line up getting another amp under warranty too.

Does everyone think it's a wiring issue or is it a defective amp on the sub? The installer did definitely seem to know his stuff and spent an hour or more after his install to try to trouble shoot. I'm thinking it might be a defective amp on the sub...

If it was installed per directions it will be installed on your truck. What kit do you have? Most likely its in the door sills connected to the passenger speaker wires. (per manual on the sub kit)

You can still wire it the way it is detailed on here you will just have to cut the connectors off and hard wire it.

Also it is a new amp that comes with the sub the sony amplifier is still in your truck pending what year and what kit you purchased.

Thank you. You are probably right that they green and brown wire is installed somewhere and I just don't see it. But I do not have the stock Sony wiring harness, so I do not believe that I can install it the way that it is detailed in this thread, can I? I do have the stock Sony sub in tact, so I have that plug that I could cut off and use, but I do not have the harness that plug into the sub and runs under the carpet. Is there a way to hard wire into the new harness and still achieve the results you guys are getting?

Yes Absolutely you can!

All you need is wire and a way to connect the wires. Wire nuts, solder them butt plugs, wire taps etc...

If you remove the sub the original sony stock sub wires will still be under there.

Remove the floor covers and you should see where they tapped into the speaker wires with the new harness, brown and green wires that are connected into the kicker harness. Remove that new tap and extend those wires over to the kicker sub and cut the connector off and hard wire into the stock wires.

Hope that makes sense...

Thanks man! I think that's it! I think I got the game plan now! I think I'll take it back to the shop that did it and tell them to do this (better be free). I would try, but my lack of knowledge on this stuff is severe...but I think the way that you broke it down, I understand what to tell them to do.

Really appreciate the help from all the guys on here and for being patient with me. I'll keep you guys updated on the results! I'm really hoping to get the clean sound that all you guys describe!

Yeah, I think he was bullshitting you...and me. Haha. I didn't know shit about it at the time, so I just took his word for it. But learning a little more about it and looking at your pictures that you posted of your setup, he didn't install it like you did. I'm going to go back and call him out on it and if nothing else, see if they have the stock harness. Thanks for your help with this and lots of other stuff! Much appreciated man!

Just to update everyone in case they care, the sub actually was defective. We were able to hook up the sub the EXACT same way as @DezertRacer and you other guys (thanks again for all the help everyone). Even with it wired that way, it still was making the grumbling noises. So we hooked up the sub to a shop system (completely separate system) and still heard the grumbling. So definitely a defective part.

Looks like I'll have to ship it back to Beau and have him swap it out

Damn that's unfortunate man. But Beau's a good guy. He'll swap it out no problem. Glad you figured out the issue though!
