I think the secret is more in the landing, than the severity of the jump - within reason.
There's a rally car vid on youtube where the guy measures 136 feet of distance off the ground or something ridiculous like that. Can you do that in a Raptor? Probably, but it depends on driver skill, approach angle, speed, (gravity weight specific to the vehicle) and most importantly - the landing surface and angles.
With the right combination of the first 4 items, gettng air - whether it be for height or distance, it doesn't matter - with the proper landing conditions (perfect, I might add) it can feel like your truck never left the ground. Well, not to you, but to the truck!
That being said, if any of the factors in this equation is off slightly - then you can break something, or cause undue stress which can cause something to break later. That's where driver judgment comes in, and risk management.
Trick is to know your vehicle, whether it be a Raptor you're jumping, or a Toyota Tercel - then practise without hurting it if possible. Bojangles posted a wicked jump in his Raptor, and he's grabbed air several times. But I'm willing to bet he always drove over it nice and slow first to see what the parameters were.
Thats my $0.02 for tonight...
