Name one production car that has a catch can? You can't because catch cans would defeat the purpose of the PVC system and PVCs exist as to not to pollute. There was a time when cars just vent to atmosphere un-burnt fuel.

It's not un-burnt fuel that's being vented, it a build up of pressure in the crankcase from blow-by. During combustion, high pressure on the top side of the piston pushes combustion gasses, as well as droplets of oil and fuel, past the piston rings and into the crankcase. This mixture is known as “blow-by.”

In older cars, the blow-by pressure was vented to the atmosphere directly. Pollution regulations forced car makers to "recycle" the blow-by back into the engine. The catch can's "filter" some of this recycled blow-by before it's sucked back into the intake.

Why don't car manufactures equip cars with catch cans? Costs and maintenance. It's hard enough for them to get people to change their oil and do other regular maintenance, much less add another device to the system that they would have to maintain. The catch can is only for those who are more maintenance savvy.

Imagine saying the manufacturers’ specialized performance division put out a product with questionable engineering and benefits for no real reason other than to generate money.

I’ve had a JLT 3.0 Catch can on mine since new. Have had zero issues with it. After each 2k miles, I pour about an ounce of black, oily, crap out of the canister. I’m glad that stuff isn’t going back into my engine. To each his own.

On your JLT did you drill a whole or just use the stock hole to mount it-- is it possible to use without drilling a hole?

They're not necessary. Just keep in mind the engineers were forced to feed that blow-by crap back in to the intake. They didn't do it because it's better for the engine. They did it because it's better for the environment and they had no choice. They also design the vehicles with catalytic converters, not because it makes the engine run better (quite the opposite), but again, because they were forced to.

They also didn't equip a lot of vehicles that have the same engine as the Gen2 Raptor with twin turbos. Why? it's not necessary for the engine to have them, but it sure performs a hell of a lot better with them.

I don't agree with your assumption that if the vehicle needed it, the auto manufacture would already provide it, especially when it comes to after market devices that make it run better or last longer.

The Gen2 Raptors don't NEED twin turbos, but yet they have them ... and the truck cost more and performs better than a regular F-150 because of them.

You can use just the hole that is left when you remove the wire harness clip to secure the bracket, but I would highly recommend drilling the second hole to secure it more firmly. Drilling the second hole is not that difficult.
