Is it possible to program my 18 Raptor 802a key fob, to work my wifes 18 Explorer 802a?

My key fob for my Raptor is usually always in my pocket. there are many times I need to drive my wifes 2018 Explorer sport. Can I make it so my keyfob will work on her car as well as my car?

And the same for her. She keeps her explorer key fob in her purse. on the rare occasion she needs to drive my truck, would be great to not have to switch keys around.

The fobs are paired with a single vehicle. While it may be technically possible to pair your Raptor keyfob with your wife's Explorer, it would unpair it with your Raptor.

Also, I doubt you'd want this in application. Example: Go to remote start your Raptor, starts your wife's Explorer too. Same goes for lock, unlock, tailgate, etc.

My wife and I keep the spare keys for our vehicles (Ironically also Raptor and Explorer) just inside the mudroom, which is off our garage. So we can easily grab whatever key we need.

I was thinking you'd have to reprogram one of the vehicles to the same code as the other vehicle. I believe you're correct that a single FOB can't be set for two different vehicles. If that were the case though, a dealership might be able to help you out with that. I've had FOB replaced before through a dealership, pretty sure the code was set by Ford someplace else though and not the dealership.

You are right though that it's going to make buttons troublesome. Proximity features would be great though. The other problem is that you'd have to have whatever you had done removed when it comes time to sell one of the vehicles.

I think the idea is a good one though. I believe some autos allow you to use your phone as the key, don't think for allows that. Might be cool for Ford to create a double key FOB, with dual buttons and such for 2 vehicles from a single FOB. Would people pay a few hundred for that though?

We do this as well....I get tired of her grabbing "my" key with my lucky beer bottle opener.

The remote start thing would be problematic for sure.

^^^THIS^^^ is not 100% accurate, you can program the same fob to multipul vehicles, I have a pair of remotes that I use for our fleet, programmed to 60ish Ford Explorer's, but those are not proximity keys or fobs. You can program the proximity keys to multipul vehicles, as long as they will pair to them, I do not believe the Raptor and Explorer proximity keys are the same frequency though, IIRC, the Raptor operates in the 900Mhz range. Programming your fob will not un-pair it with the vehicle it is programmed for, that has to be done via IDS or Forscan.

But the door lock/unlock, remote start will be an issue

What you're describing is an aftermarket solution though. I'm pretty sure what OP was asking is if his existing Raptor fob could be added to his wife's Explorer, which I'm pretty sure the OEM fobs cannot support.

Though I will admit this knowledge is based on older fobs, and perhaps that's changed. Though I would be surprised if it had.

My $0.02 will be that this conundrum will be moot in 3-5 years. I expect Ford (and others) will begin allowing phones to act as a fob, which would be awesome.

imagine losing a key or having it stolen. They'll have access to both vehicles, and its gonna cost a whole lot more to reprogram both cars vs just one.

I am referring to oem remotes, aftermarket would make this even easier, but the explorer remote and raptor remotes (OEM ones) are not interchangeable.
