GEN 2 Is a 3" Exhaust Really Worth It?

Adding a CAI and /or a muffler does nothing. The truck isn’t restricted on intake or exhaust and if you add more intake or exhaust without making other changes does nothing.

It is a system and everything works together. Save your money for tires and a tune if you are brave enough to risk the potential warranty issue.

Does “nothing” is strong wording.

While not a raptor. I did buy a new 15 mustang gt.
Drove it right to livernois Motorsports,
Bunch of baseline pulls,
Added CAI. Hood closed
Picked up 7-10 average
Removed cai, added a catback.
Averaged 5-7 more.
Re installed the CAI.
18-21 average increase.
Multiple pulls with each change to verify the results. All pulls were the same day.

So to say “nothing” isn’t accurate.

The results were published on SVTPerformance.com and as well as livernoismotorsports.com.

IAT was also recorded and documented in traffic on busy telegraph rd in 90 degree weather. While temp went up slightly faster with a CAI. Temp also dropped a lot faster when in motion with the CAI.

Mustang and Raptor engines have nothing in common other than a Ford badge on the side of their respective vehicles. Please do not draw conclusions from two dissimilar engines.

It's still just an air pump. Having a better flowing intake and exhaust will always help. Even on a PD blower engine configuration, which is the least sensitive to exhaust restriction by far, upgrading to a larger mandrel bent system always yields measurable power differences.

When running increased boost, such as with a tune, freeing up the intake and exhaust in any way you can is beneficial.

I'm hoping that the SPD turbo adapters help utilize some of the extra volume I've added with the exhaust and the the CAI to make it worthwhile. I consider this the "Prep Stage" or Stage 1.

I know I won't see the full benefits until I replace the downpipes and add a tune, but that's ok. All in time..........

The greater the diameter of an exhaust system, the slower the exhaust gasses move. Under some circumstances the exhaust flow can actually stall in an exhaust tract that too large for the engine. That's a bad thing.

The turbo adapters are the exact same since the Gen 1 ecoboost f150, which was 365 hp and 420 ft/lbs.

gen 2 eb was 375hp and 470 ft/lbs

the gen 2 HO is 450 Hp and 510 ft/lbs

a custom tune put out well over that.

Do you want to use the turbo adapters originally designed for 365 hp on a tuned raptor?

No, I'm having the SPD turbo adapters installed already.

According to SPD, "100% stock 2016 F150 3.5L Ecoboost with just SPD's adapters installed had an +21HP and +17TQ increase at the rear wheels! See dyno. A 100% stock 2017 F150 Raptor made +24HP and +43lbs of TQ at the rear wheels.

You realize you can’t compare the regular EcoBoost with the HO Raptor EcoBoost.
