Regarding GPS, for those of us that only have a WiFi iPad, does anyone remember the name of the member that was using the red GPS receiver on the dash of his truck? I think he might have even been from south Texas...

I currently use my iPhone 5 as a hot spot, but would use that other unit for when I just need a mapping solution.

Awesome gum! Can you get some shots in the day light? ;-) Also, can you please confirm how the kit mounts to the dash?

Thanks

I will get you some tomorrow! So the kit replaces the factory dash with radio on it. I take off the Sync USB and cigarette lighter and move over to new dash panel. The radio itself is behind the dash, which stays and the float mount kit is put back into the dash just like if you were buying an aftermarket double din kit from Metra or eBay. All of the FM/AM, Sirius, and Line in still work as factory. Literally took me an hour to install, which most time was spent taking apart dash :headbang:

I like the idea of powering it in the locked up console....my guess is that it doesn't charge while in the dash since it just drops in using the magnet. So you just turn it on and drop it in, right?

I don't remember.....can you easily put the iPad in a power save mode when you run into the store. That way it appears to be an in dash system and less likely to be 'removed' from the truck.

Yessir it does not charge when it's docked, only overnight in the locked console. iPad batteries are a lot better than a phone, which it will last at least 3-4 days with moderate driving without charging.

As for dropping it in, it's as easy as that!

As far as putting it in sleep mode, I wonder if the magnet cover will still fit on the iPad when it is mounted into the dock?

I have an iPad2 which I use with the external Bluetooth gps which sits on the dash. I only use it while using MotionX, works well.

A lot of us are using the Dual Bluetooth GPS puck. I use it with my iPad mini wifi and the tomtom app, motion x, even apple maps (provided I have a destination preloaded) or I can hotspot the mini to my iphone.

That's the one! Thanks guys for pointing me in the right direction. I really want to do this , but there are some concerns. As to the CD player, I've never used it. But I live and die with Sirius. You are correct in that you can control the radio from the steering wheel, but as far as the preset stations, unless I am missing something, you will have to set your favorites before you remove the dash. If you hit the advance button on the steering wheel, it advances from one preset to the next. If you hold it down, it will speed thru each station. If you over shoot your station and then hit the advance button it goes to the next preset.

Hmmmm....in a perfect world it would be awesome to control the radio from an iPad application
