Hey all, in looking forward to some raptor runs in the future and wearing helmets and wanting to hear two-way and tunes, and maybe a cell call on occasion, was wondering what folks have installed? I have seen the PCI and rugged radios intercoms and not sure if there are others out there.
I used chatterbox on quads in the desert and have some of that gear still, but why transmit RF for someone sitting next to you. I really like having the in car intercom in my 1/2 1600 buggy. I will want to use my ICOM ham radio as the rig of choice, for many reasons and as being ham licenced and able.

Thanks in advance for your input and experiance.:hail:

and yes, keep budget in mind..... unlike the wife!

On the Texas Run, I drove with a buddy and we had absolutely no trouble at all hearing all of the above that you mentioned - through our helmets. Cell phone Syncs handsfree thru the speakers, the ICOM race radio is very loud, and so were we haha. This is with windows rolled up in a nice A/C environment - very different in other offroad rides with the wind noise, heat, and dirt swirling.

Because TRR is low speed and most people did not have radio's. Trust me, you want in cab intercom when barreling down a road at 100+ mph or at night when someone in front of you comes to a stop because of a flat and the terrain does not allow them to pull off the trail.

OP:
I have a PCI setup in my truck. Probably the same type you have in your buggy. Instead of headphones, it plugs into my helmet. In the desert you want Weatherman, BFG and a few other frequencies programmed in along with hotkeys to switch back and forth.

I have a handheld as well for when I am out of my truck. I hate having to run back to the truck to listen to what is going on.

Thanks guys.
Bussa, do you know of any BT ones that would intergrate? Derr, your into that realm....
I do like being able to hear co-driver calling out map plots and turns, I did not like hand signals, too distracting for me.
Also at some point i would like the go-pro audio input to record.
SPRSNK, do you use VOX or PPT button? No biggy, but I know from the catter box days and quad rides some folks keep keying up for every little ditch and bump and that wears on you....

Thanks again, good stuff...

I use VOX for in cabin and PPT for the race radio. I do not believe in jamming up the radio for idle chatter. That is what a co-driver is for. As for the GoPro, if you put on the standard mount (not the waterproof/dust proof one), it records what is going on in the cabin if you have the stereo down and windows up decently.
