Installing shrader valve in stock 2.5 internal bypass svt shocks (UPDATE POST 8)

I just bought these, and I read on here somewhere that people have put shrader valves in, replacing the odd needle style that only fox can fill apparently.


Who has done it? What do I need?

If these shocks can only be serviced at one shop in Cali, I'd like to at least be able to adjust the amount of charge in them...

I have used needles and have them. You can buy them as well, that is how I got them in the first place and usually a motorcycle or snow mobile place has them. I prefer shrader though. I will soon be finding out how to convert them myself.

The fox guy told me I needed a "special" tool to use on them that only they have... But if you have stuff that works, I'd love more info.

Also who has worked on the shocks? Anybody found a way around all the "special" tools needed?

Fox basically said they could not help me when I asked.

How do I get the charge out of them in the first place though? I don't want 250 psi of nitrogen launching that thing across the room when I unscrew it to get a shrader.

And what takes it out? Sorry I don't have the shocks in front of me, they are at my buddies.

They have the replacement caps with shrader valves in them. They also rebuild shocks. Their shock guy has been doing it for a long time. He's the best.
caps are approx. $100/pair. rebuild is approx. $75 ea. includes seals, oil and recharge.

Has anyone tried different psi charges in the stock shocks yet?

FYI, this is super easy. Takes about ten minutes per shock. And that was doing it very carefully and making sure to clean everything up so no dirt got in the rezi.

Drill out the little *** of plastic that's stuck in the set screw. Remove with small flat blade screw driver. Then slowly remove the set screw, once a few turns out the pressure will start to bleed off. Wear safety glasses just in case, as I did loosen one too far and it shot across the room... LOL.









Then press down on the blue cap so you can remove the snap ring. Then pull the cap (I put the set screw back in, and used an allen wrench to spin it while kind of pulling up at the same time, it eventually will come out)







I found that about 5/16 depth worked good on the tap, so the threads just tighten up before the fitting bottoms out on the cap.







Reinstall cap, remember to push it down so the snap ring can easily be installed, it will pop back up when you put pressure in.




Hope that helps. I have done 4 of these now for my blazer. Which they look way cooler on

Fox 2.5 Bypass Shock Rebuild Seal Kit - Ford Raptor


I will be hopefully having some tuning done to these shocks this summer for the dunes. So if you guys want I could post up that info here as well. My blazer is a little heavier than your raptors I think, so the valving is way off in the rear. They worked pretty well in the front though.
