Hi Everyone
I installed an AFE Stage 2 intake and a 5Star lid tonight and have a couple questions:

1. The AFE kit included some edging that goes around the top of the metal box that the filter sits on. Do I use that edging with the 5Star lid or leave it off?

2. On the passenger side of the plenum/silencer that sits on the throttle body, there was a clip/clamp secured to the side of the plenum box holding two hoses (coolant I think), without tje plenum installed, there isnt any place to secure that clamp anymore...is that an issue? I am worried if/when those hoses get hot that they will slump down and rub on other stuff.

3. I ordered the regular silver tube version but dont like the looks lf it. As I was installing it I got to thinking. ..can I just take it back out and plastidip it black or use high heat matte black paint? Im thinking plastip will help insulate the tube as well to help keep temps lower. Thoughts?

4. No tune is necessary right? I think I remember seeing others put the kit on with no tune. We just moved from FL to MN and the brillant moving company through my tuner in a box with a bunch of garage tools and my hitch bar...they rattled around on the trip and my tuner is wrecked...need to order a new one once the claim adjuster confirms they are reimbursing me for a new one on Friday so I cant tune until then.

5. I confirmed with the shop that the kit I received should be the revised one but I still had fitment issues with the air box/filter assy...the corner that is closest to the drivers headlamp hits the rubber liner, this forces the assy to sit crooked in the lower box, after wrestling with it I finally got the forward clamp to close but wow it was tight and I was afraid I was going to break the plastic clamp especially considering it was only 36 in the garage. When I look at my box/filter assy, I can see that its not sitting straight, the gap is bigger on the forward part. Does this mean I did something wrong or is my kit messed up??

I left it off. Doesn't really fit with the lid.

I'm not sure what clamp you're talking about but I know what hoses you're talking about. They're fairly rigid and I haven't had any issues with them.

I also had the same thoughts. If it wasn't for the fact that it's not really seen often I'd take it off and hit it with the high heat flat black. Not really worth my time to remove it just for that though.

A tune is not required.

Mine doesn't seat perfectly either. It's a minor fitment issue IMO and I don't foresee it causing any issues.

You are correct in that the CAI does not require a new tune

Thanks!

Tune might not be required but my aFe felt like absolute crap without it (5 star). There was a ridiculous bog in 1st just off idle with an an accompanying resonance that made it really loud in a bad way. 5 star fixed all that as they tune for the length of the pipe.

I have a 2014 SCrew with aFE and 5 star tune (91 perf). This will really wake up the truck. It is much more responsive and gets better gas mileage (depending on how heavy my foot is). Had the same setup on my 2011 SCrew. This is a must have. Ordered the SCT tuner and tunes from Mike at 5 Star.

Thanks everyone - I haven't gotten the money from the moving company yet so haven't purchased a new tuner so as of the last couple weeks, just running the AFE intake.

I definitely have the resonance and bog that Stang mentioned above. Outside of that and the initial fitment issues, its been a good add for my truck. My particual Raptor LOVES the intake - before adding the intake, I would average 14mpg (according to the dash lie-o-meter), thats with a mix of stop and go, highway and the weather has been ridculously cold in MN so lots of ideling to warm the truck up (loving the remote start!!!). After installing the AFE, I have averaged 15.3 and 15.2mpg (according to the dash lie-o-meter) - I know the dash gauge can be way off but the delta between shouldn't matter (I think), the delta from hand calculating would be the same if my thought process is correct. Thats a healthy mpg increase with just the intake installed. I drive healthy but not not spirited, some sprints to get in and around traffic, some lazy cruizes at 55mpg. I am pretty happy with it and if the 5Star tune makes it that much better, I can't wait. Just need the moving company to get off their tushes and close out the claim process so I can buy a tuner and get my tunes loaded back into it!!!

Sounds like the act of a moving company found on Craigslist....just saying. Any reputable moving company would have made sure this didn't happen. Sorry this happened to you though.
