Inline Fuel Filter question

Apologise if this has been covered already, have spent the last hour search posts to see if there were any answers to this question and came up with nothing.

that being said, I’m wanting to put an inline fuel filter on my Gen1 Roush Raptor. I know the truck has a fuel filter that is said to last it’s life time that is in the fuel tank but as I use my own fuel bowsers and I am at a higher risk of getting rust particles etc from my tank I am wanting to have a little more peace of mind.

Has any one done this mod and if so does it interfere with the fuel flow required for the Roush SC or the computers fuel sensors?

FYI, it is a nylon mesh sock warped around the bottom of the fuel pump where it picks up fuel.

I would not add one.
But you can do yourself a big favor and use both in the truck.

Thanks for the info, yes, have a good quality filter installed on the bowser already to protect the other motor bikes and vehicles. I’m curious about the injector cleaners, I’ve herd mixed options about them (most recently from a diesel fitter who said they can do damage to other parts of the system, maybe just with diesel injector cleaners)

I have used them a few times in my V8 land cruiser and would use just before I did a service on the car and on a long trip where I drained the hole tank the injector cleaner was in (have a sub tank not linked to main with the land cruiser)
I did this incase there was a risk of the injector cleaner sitting in tank or being run through fuel filter.

I think I will leave the in-line fuel filter mod for down the track if it needs it and instead work on a better air intake first

I've been using those for 10 years in my Raptor and longer in other gas vehicles.

Diesels are another story, since there are live organism in diesel fuel, you have to be careful using cleaners and other additives.
If diesel fuel sits around too long it will be full of live organisms, and then you add a cleaner, it will gum up injectors, clog filters.
Been there done that, since I'm a crane and heavy equipment operator.

Yeah cool, I didn’t know that about diesels thanks for the info. How often will you run an injector cleaner through the fuel tank? Before a service or once a year? Obviously dirtier fuel then more often but again haven’t used them before in a Unleaded so interested in learning about them.

I do both twice a year, the Techron is also a lubricant for the injectors.
If I fuel up at a shady looking gas station I'll add a treatment of Enzyme Treatment.
You never know what the condition (water) of the gas is in some of these towns.

@MTF...those Fuel Treatments safe to use with the Whipple S.C.?

I have had good luck with Chevron Techron but really seem to notice and improvement with BG 44K. I always add a bottle if I go on a trip that will burn through a tank of gas.

Being a chem E in the organics field I can say, 1. If you don't use them regularly or after a rebuild don't bother, breaking a large chunk of carbon off into a cylinder is not great. 2. In forced induction engines octane and air/fuel is key so the additional additive could be doing more harm than good.

Also they aren't doing anything for your rust and scale, add a filter and guage(in an easily accessible location so it can be checked/replaced regularly) if you have any pressure loss find a pump that is more suitable.... or just drop the tank and clean it from time to time. I'm not familiar with the gen 1 to know the difficulty in doing so
