Has anyone had experience using an IPAD for GPS in an event like TRR? I have a GPS app called MotionX that can use the .GPX files for trails and waypoints. I just hate to buy another GPS if my Verizon enabled IPAD 3 GPS Equipped will do the job just as good.

Yes, I use my iPad 3 with 3G to do all my trail runs in Colorado. MotionX is a great program. I have created my own GPX files using Google Maps* and downloaded them to my iPad. The accuracy is awesome.

* I use Google Maps to trace a trail (using satellite or hybrid map views), then generate a .gpx file for MotionX

My son is my co-pilot, so I don't need to mount my iPad. It uses a lot of battery, so keep it plugged in and fully charge it each night.

I do not have a local 4X4 shop, so I would like to take full advantage of the availablilty of shop install services and vendor discounts.
