Keep mentioning the 3.5 doesn't provide any fuel economy benefits whatsoever. It's a gross misconception. You touch the boost, and it's worse than the 5.0L every day of the week and twice on Sunday. The latest gen 5.0L has a ridiculously good HP per liter rating. Almost, but not quite "the" best in the business. The 5.0L Coyote is legitimately an excellent engine.

Just sold my 2020 Raptor, this truck shortage has really pinned the value and couldn't help myself. Picked up a 2021 fully loaded Lariat with FX4 package and the sport appearance (blacked out grill etc.) and the AT tire package. I know it's not a Raptor, so not an apples to apples comparison and it's not running 35" K02's ... but with less than 600 miles on it so far, I'm getting on average 21.5 MPG with the 5.0 doing the same driving I would do regularly with the Raptor. The Raptor after fully breaking it in for a few thousand miles and a full suspension and tire alignment, I was seeing approximately 16mpg average for regular commuting. That is an absolutely massive increase in MPG, and even if you factor in the heavier larger 35" Ko2 vs the 275 R20's I have on the Lariat, it's nowhere near enough to explain or account for the almost 6mpg difference.

The only thing I don't have the option for now with the Raptor vs my new truck, is flying down off-road trails at full speed. Honestly, the 2020 Raptor can barely handle a pothole on pavement without the entire backend kicking out all over the place. Blunt truth. The stock spring setup is really poorly setup in conjunction with the damping rates. It's almost laughable how bad it is after testing it out. I wouldn't touch the 3.5 Raptor with a 10 foot pole after placing my bets on the 5.0L being the actual 'eco' engine of the bunch.

Now I’m not saying the 5.0 might not get better mileage than the 3.5 but there is much more to consider than just tire size. Your Lariat has air dams, isn’t as tall, is lighter and has a taller gear ratio. All which add up to a lot. I took my air dam off the front of my ‘18 GMC Sierra and I almost lost 2 full MPG. It’s crazy what a little bit of aero can do.

That’s awesome and probably a better fit for you.

Put that 5.0 in a 5800 pound Raptor with 4.10’s and see what the economy is- but post it in the Gen 1 forum, they’re obsessed with MPG’s... since about 2010.

I’d bet money the 3.5 gets better mileage than the 5.0 all else equal in the Raptor platform driven identically.

Plus, the 5.0 has zero low/mid range torque compared to the 3.5. I had a new 5.0 loaner truck recently and unless you were winding it out (then it felt pretty good) it was a gutless truck engine.

It's says in this video the hp is 450 and 550tq. It's right in the very beginning of the video the Ford rep answer's a ford workers question about the 2021 Raptor's power.

The Ford website for the Raptor now says 450hp and 510tq.
Some one slipped up and said more than they should have.
I bet ford is sand bagging.

Why would they sandbag on 50lbs of TQ? That would be a good selling point despite HP staying the same. It’s not like the Gen 3 with 50 extra lbs is going to beat a TRX in a straight line. Now a short course is another story.

I agree.
Ford come clean.
Give us something.

I had a 2017 Raptor Scab lighting blue - SOLD. To many problems.
2019 Raptor Super Crew Performance Blue - FORD purchased it back. To many problems.
2022 Raptor Super Crew money down to order.
You get one last chance. Bring it!!!

i actually don't mind the application of ecoboost v6 in these trucks, I wonder if there will every be a way to retrofit a gen3 exhaust into a gen 2 for it to sound better! would be awesome. the ecoboost is part the reason why reason ford is self sustaining and doesn't have to buy credits from tesla like FCA does. Good for the companies longevity when the entire world is going 'green'

Also its funny this engine was the king of truck engines 2 years ago then the trx came along and now its a **** all of the sudden.

But, yes it would be nice to bump the power up a hair, and I do wonder if they fixed the cam phaser issues that we have been seeing. a possible mid cycle refresh could give the ecoboost more horsepower say in 2023/24?

For the R i think it would be awesome if they put the ford GT engine in it (obviously the predator is insane and amazing engine also)

my post is all over the place but these are just my thoughts about the whole topic
