Howdy all. I am a aspiring Raptor owner and can't wait much longer to place my order for a Raptor. I have my eye set on a 2011 super cab fully loaded Tux Black Raptor with the orange accent interior w/ the 6.2. I have been looking and wanting one since the original 5.4 came out and have been greatly impressed with all the great reviews. Living in TX and being from NM there are plenty of places to go play between Dallas and the Mountains. I can't wait to get mine. Y'all have done a great job on the forum and keep up the great work. By the way what aftermarket upgrades would y'all consider to be worth the money and worth the performance or visibility gains.

Welcome diesel! Great to have ya.

I hope you'll avail yourself of this forums search and Knowledge Base Articles features. There is a bunch of info out there on various performance and visibility mods out there. Unfortunately, the 6.2 engine is so new that there's just not much being done yet... but that's slowly changing. Bolt ons are coming, and I've heard rumor of a couple different shops cracking gaskets and looking for ways of maximizing the heads and block. Lots of cool stuff in the works for that beast of a motor!

Again, welcome! By all means feel free to ask any questions you've got and just jump in and start discussing. These guys don't bite... not hard anyway

Red River

Welcome aboard!! Where in NM are you from? I was in the Red River area this summer.

Hey Kaiser. thx for the info. I am actually from Red River and still have a family cabin up there. It was great to see your posts from Red River. I have spent many days driving around and fishing all over those areas. Next time you go up if you have never been up head to Goose Lake. Trails are wide enough to get up with minimal scratches but like many of the other places around RR you will be in low gear and moving slow. I may still have a few pics from when we took a H2 up to goose and greenie. Amazing views and darn fine fishing. I have a lot of pics from up in the area. You should go up in the winter and snowmobile around Midnight Meadows and Greene Peak. The bog on one end of the meadow stays thawed most winters and the Deer and Elk will congregate for water and last forage. I can't wait to order my Raptor and head up to RR.

Awesome!! My wife's family has vacationed in that area for decades (incl Eagle Nest) and I have come to love that part of New Mexico as much as they do. Very jealous of the cabin. I took my Ranger up to Goose Lake a several years ago. I did not have time to hit everything I wanted to this past trip. I will also look into doing Old Red River Pass sometime. We went to Angel Fire and Enchanted Forrest X-mas '08 for cross country skiing. I have always wanted to try snowmobiling. I will look into that during my next winter trip.

I would recomend the snowmobiling greatly there are several great guides that take group trips. On trip is run from the ski mountain and I believe the go up around Pioneer Canyon. Another good trip is around Bobcat Pass. I don't know who runs the trips up to Midnight or Greenie any more. For many years my father and grandfather ran the tours both jeep in the summer and snowmobile in the winter. Be careful on the old pass it is a lot of fun but can be a little sticky in some places. I do wish the forest service would open up Middle Fork to vehicles again. Also, every year there is a jamboree that bring a lot of offroad enthusiast up to the mountains. Thanks for the invite to the texas group. I don't have my Raptor yet but dont mind talking my 96 F-150 most places. I was thinking about planting it and with a little fertilizer maybe grow into its big brother. Here is to wishful thinking.

I think we saw several of the Bobcat Pass groups when we were there skiing. I am not familiar with Middle Fork, I will look into it. I was in the Jeep club in Amarillo and ran into a bunch of them during the jamboree one year in my Ranger. One of the Jeep guides told me to avoid 4th of July Canyon when I was up there this summer.

I was lucky to have the best of both worlds. I grew up here in Texas north of Dallas and still live here today. Some of my family still lived in RR and had the cabin up there, so we were able to go up many summers and really any chance we could. I do miss cold summer mornings camping and fishing.
