And for good reason. I bought the tool, followed the instructions, and..
The mirror mount snapped right off bringing with it a chunk of windshield. The tool snapped too. Unbelievable. So I'm getting a new windshield tomorrow.
Without a rear view mirror I hope.
With the mirror off, I had the chance to inspect the mount closely. The outside plastic is covering a metal clip that surrounds the mirror mount. The "tool" is supposed to depress a side of the clip on the bottom. Problem is that the right and left sides of the metal clip are hugging the metal mirror mount for dear life. Depressing the bottom alone was not enough. The two sides held on long enough to detach the mirror mount from the windshield, bringing a chunk of windshield with it.
This really shouldn't be this difficult.
