also, I’m not sure if you were debunking that thread on the f150 forum I linked to but as they say, millions of flies can’t be wrong.

my 2018 Platinum cooled seats did not go up the seat back due to ford removing whatever they removed that routed the air up there. I noticed it instantly on test drive. I’ve had cooled seats on at least my last 15 cars so I know what it should feel like. I have no issue with it on my 2020 Raptor.

I meant its sounds like 2017 and back really used cooled seats ,2018 and up , sounds like just a fan . y did ford stop using the ted setup ,or is it still used ,just not on the raptors ? I just read a few posts back sorry ,so they stoped using ted because of airflow restrictions ,dirty filter , large humans ,and overheating .

Those definitely weren’t “millions“, but forums have a way of generating confusion and baseless speculation, as the large majority of people have zero idea what they’re talking about. The complaints on there seem to be based on the 2015 F-150 cooled seat back issue, which Ford released a TSB for.

Ford did not remove anything on 2018 models. I had a 2018 Lariat and the ventilated seats worked on both the seat back and bottom cushion. If yours was not working on the backrest then there was an issue with the system, possibly something disconnected within the seat.

However, I’m no kid, nor am I inexperienced when it comes to automobiles. In the last 5 years alone I’ve bought and sold 6 brand new Porsches, a Macan S, 2 Macan Turbos, a Panamera and 2 911s. I’ve also purchased brand new 4 f150s since 2018, a 2017 Raptor, a 2018 Platinum, a 2019 Raptor and now a 2020 Raptor. Oh, and I squeezed in a 2020 M5 in there this year, Not to mention 2 Lexus and 3 Hondas for family members And should you doubt that for a moment, I invite you to Google my screen name. It’s the same on the Macan forum, Rennlist, F150 forum, and here where I’ve posted pics and evidence of every one. Yes, I’m a wacko and change cars more often than @NASSTY changes his BVDs.

Every car I’ve owned, including my 2020 M5, which I’ve posted about on the f90 forum, has had cooled seats. To sit on them, turn them on and experience them in hot, humid NYC is to know how they perform, how good or bad they are. I don’t need to be a Ford tech to know for a fact that the cooling function did not go up the seat back on the Platinum, regardless of whether you say they did or didn’t remove something. Unless you’ve had complaints about seat cooling not working on a 2018 Platinum up the seat back and thus took it apart, or you spend your spare time studying spec sheets for repairs you haven’t performed just in case, sorry.

And your statement that forums sow confusion is merely toeing (no, not towing) the manufacturer line and frankly puts the BS to your sticking up for Ford. Knowledge gained on forums has been invaluable to owners and harmful to dealers who cringe when you go into their service dept and actually know what’s wrong with your vehicle because you have evidence from multiple people experiencing the same issue. Is it always accurate? Nothing in life is absolute. But it’s damn informative.

If the TSB did nothing the dealer may have performed it incorrectly. I have done plenty myself and there is a definite improvement. There were a couple TSBs released for the door latch freezing issue; from what I’ve seen the most recent one resolves the issue.

I have no reason to doubt you owned any of those vehicles. I’ve also disassembled more than my fair share of seats on Ford vehicles and I can tell you from first hand experience that there is a ventilated seat blower motor in both the seat cushion and backrest on a 2018 Platinum. Note that 2018 models had ventilated sears, not cooled seats. If you had no airflow on yours from the seat backrest, there was something wrong with the blower or ducting.

How am I “sticking up for Ford” by proving forum members with diagnosis and repair information on their vehicles and explaining how systems work? The validity of information on forums is reliant entirely on the knowledge of the person posting, and the large majority of people are by no means professionals in the automotive industry.

The majority of dealers want informed customers in the service department because it makes their job easier. The more accurately the customer can describe the issue, the easier it will be for them to duplicate and repair it. The issue is when people read about a concern on a forum and then immediately go to the dealer and demand it be fixed because it’s a “known issue”, even though there is nothing wrong with their vehicle. The 5.0 Coyote tick noise is a perfect example; threads blowing up in the forums with people all convinced that their engines are broken, when in reality it is a normal noise caused by the oil flow through the journals. Situations like that just create chaos and spread misinformation. I am by no means saying forums are not valuable or informative, but complaints are not always indicative of actual issues.
