How fast are you driving these days?

I just drove a 500 mile round trip yesterday to check on my summer place in northern MI. Normally I see one or 2 cops, this time there are about 6 pairs along the way just on the way up! Not much for them to do right now, all had there radar on full blast I think as a deterrent more then to catch people.

Gen2 V1 worked very well, not enough Wazers to get any real good intel from. After the first 2 cops with in the first 20 miles I dialed it back to a constant 8 over.

What little city driving I do I am the speed limit these days.

I actually own a purpose built truly fast car so I feel very little need to push the speed when in the Raptor which- aside from the power- is so far removed from being appropriate for high speed road driving it’s scary. In fact- the power potential makes it even scarier. It’s all ***** & giggles taking cute snapshots of your 3 ton truck doing 100+....until you have to stop, turn, maneuver

before you even go down the “nobody called the fun police” road in this comment, consider the fact that the sole reason I’m driving a raptor right now is because I totaled my last GMC truck drilling a deer head-on @ 70mph

also very relevant considering the topic of this thread & timing- I quite literally almost died last Friday IMO as a RESULT of the very light traffic + combo of speeding & distracted/anxious drivers.

doing 81mph on cruise control on I-495 in MA (this particular stretch common to see people doing 80-85 & 90ish regularly) I was in the left lane, it was raining lightly & roads were wet- but also VERY windy- could feel the cab being pushed. Woman driving Hyundai not paying attention starts merging/drifting into my lane & by the time I notice & see BLIS going off she’s within 1/2” of side swiping me (I’m assuming was simultaneously pushed by wind while drifting into my lane) & I my got reaction was a quick jerk of the steering wheel to the left which immediately became more pronounced as I noticed she was nearly to the point of no return.

well- luckily there’s was no guardrail on this stretch of 495, but it does dip down in the middle grassy area as many highways do & I swear if I didn’t happen to have the truck in 4A I may not be typing this right now b/c after I ****** the wheel I felt the ass end get uncomfortably light & start to come around the left on me & I stomped on the Gas cutting wheel to the right to counteract & luckily @ 80+ mph those front tires starting clawing & I was able to get back fully on hwy off wet grass get control & bring speed down.

So aside from being in 4A if I had been going much faster, 90 or certainly 100-110, I don’t think 4A would’ve mattered & I would’ve rolled it.

Z06 is getting blower installed now so I MAY get a chance to bring it to Mexico before this covid stuff dies down & take advantage of this "light traffic"

be safe guys!

Faster than usual. Arizona roads are just perfect right now for temp and no traffic. Been getting the GT500 up to 120+ for some bursts (on-ramp mostly) but generally in town 80-100 honestly.

what speed rating are your tires?

The speed test is tires filled to maximum air pressure and they have to survive for an hour to get the rating. Most will handle speeds well over their rating as long as it's not sustained, it's much harder to blow a tire than most people assume. I doubt he was driving 125 MPH for an hour.

80 to 85 MPH in Houston. Still finding knuckleheads going 65 in the hammer lane but it seems that most of the non-essentials were the ones F'ing up traffic
