There are challenges. It used to be that most muffler shops couldn't bend stainless steel tube, so you had to settle for a system that would slowly rust. I don't know if that's still the case. If you piece togther sections of stainless steel tube in lieu of bending them, then you have a LOT of welds and somthing other than a smooth interior surface.

You understand that removal of the resonator will make the truck louder at all times, whether the cut-out is open or not. That might be okay in your neighborhood and it might not bother the police, but then it might. You might also not enjoy the increased noise in the cab during long drives like vacations.

I thought the earlier model scabs had no resonator?

Correct, they did not have a resonator. The exhaust note is slightly lounder, but not so much that anyone but you will notice if the res is suddenly gone. Take your time cutting it out and you can weld it back if you feel like you need to.

Yeah I kind of regret mine as well. I like the way it sounds on my 5.4 but dealing with it starting to rattle when it's closed is very annoying.

Also, Ruger, you're correct. My 5.4 has no resonator.

While this is true everything I'm adding is straight on mine and I'm re-using the stock pipes over the axle. I'm also going to TIG it all to minimize any weld on the inside of the pipes.

If yer re-using the stock pipes over the axle, then its not really a "home made" system is it? Unbolt the system, slide out the whole thing (it can be done its just a PIA) Cut out from in front of the res to the back of the muffler duals. Straight pipe to where yer muffler will be, then place the stock pipes in the new muffler (if you go with flowmaster you will have to motivate the stock tailpipes in as the outlets on a flowmaster are wider apart than stock) hang the exhaust back on the truck and bolt it back up. Cut off the front and rear hangers from the stock muffler and burn weld or tig weld them on to yer new muffler and pipe to keep it rigid for airborn adventures
-And boom goes the dynamite-

oops just noticed how old this thread is....................
