So i bought a preowned 2011 raptor w/ 30K miles on it and had never offroaded it till this past weekend on some beach dunes. Right off the bat i was amazed at what this machine is capable of. I was enjoying it greatly, that is until i noticed my tranny temp quickly rising after a hard workout on 4-Hi for about 10mins in the sand dunes. Sorry for the noob question but do i need to upgrade the tranny cooler or is this normal for them? If i do need to upgrade, what is out there in the market?

I haven't driven in the dunes yet but I romped a bit in some sandy washes and the temp quickly rose from 195 to 230.

I live in AZ so we have really hot ambient temps which doesn't help.

A transcooler upgrade is in the cards for me. I have been watching the threads on this closely.

Mine have jumped to 230 after a hard run. I think a cooler is worth the money. Maybe someday but I haven't had any issues so far.

I was at south padre island down in south Texas so weather was pretty hot down there. What kind of transcooler are you looking into and what kind of prices?

When I get some time I am going to try to find some radiator shops to see if anyone can graft 2 or 3 stock coolers together. that's my first path. I don't see elevated temps when driving on the streets and I don't go in sand much. If I did buy an aftermarket kit I would not get one that mounts down by the skid plate, that look too vulnerable to me.

The one the outlaw offers doesn't mount to the bumper. That's the only brand ive seen offered thru vendors though

I installed a trans / power steering cooler with a fan on it for when I am running hard in the sand dunes. That helped a bunch for me and not seeing the 240's I was and if running supper heard can hit 230's then I cool it for awhile.
