Ok.

So, I know what I want to do but can't figure out this easy mod.

The newer Raptors have the 2nd USB plug in the center console. I want that.

I currently have a 12" extension to bring the plug down to behind the glove box and have a 16GB flash drive plugged in and rarely unplug it.

But when I do I have to clear out the glove box and open it up to get to it. (PITA)

I want to get a longer extension and move it to the center console.

I want a clean install. So that brings me to my question:

I want some sort of adapter that I can drill a hole into the lower front of the console and screw the adapter together from the front and back. That will give the "Clean" look. Will this do what I need/want? They don't have a rear picture... How do I get the current USB connection plugged into this piece? - You get the idea

What I'm finding however are adapters that have wires on the back end.

I want to be able to plug the extension into the back of the adapter and then my flash drive into the front.

Opinion Time (Plz/TY)

here, on frf
you can get a usb cable that is a circle . then you can just drill a hole and push the usb cable in. it has locking tabs so it will stay in place. i am working on a car right now and i am doing the exact same thing. (aftermarket radio in a mercedes) if you want to wait until tuesday, i can have some pics so you can see the the cable and install look like.

Can you please list the stuff you bought for this install?

And I suppose just the same general relocation approach that others have posted?

Been wanting to do this for a while myself... and I mean since my truck is getting cut up anyways, might as well venture into the drilling-unknown.

Great job - looks good. I'd suggest that anyone doing this consider moving the USB port over to the right (in his pic above) closer to the 12v power port.

That's what I initially wanted to do. However, once you remove the console you will find that there is not a clean way to place it by the 12V due to the metal framing of the console along with the cup holders.

I purchased the extension off of eBay. CLICK HERE

Of course I didn't use the mounting bracket but due to the length of the usb connector not including the cord; it would not have worked to put the plug any closer to the 12V without completely dismantling my console and doing more R&D into available space to cut into.

My location appeared to be the closest I could get to the 12V due to the metal structure and the cup holders.

I used the 1" spade bit and drilled through the console and then through into the backside of the shifter cavity. From there the cord followed through under the upfitter switches and then up the right side of the radio stack and plugged into an adapter which permitted me to convert over to the mini usb.

Works great and didn't take long at all.

As for the location, looks clean and I'm not staring at it all the time so the fact that it's not directly above the 12v is ok. You'll see what I'm referring to once you get in there. Someone may be able to do it better than I but this worked great for me.
