Help with my Lowrance HDS5 Gen2

Ike the title says, HDS5 Gen2. I have literally ZERO experience. My GF just surprised me with this. I hear I need to run an external antenna then I hear I don't. Please chime in and tell me if you've got one. If you don't have an external antenna, do you think it would work better if you had one??? What did you do for mounting the antenna? Thanks fellas.

You will want the external antenna jack. Will be a better experience and your maps will be good. Mounted mine on roof. You will want a 2gb SD card or get a SD card from psi with a shit ton of maps for Cali

Not sure what maps you're has. Mine didn't come with any. Here's the one I'm getting that has a lot! Getting a blank 2 GB one too for saving new trails. http://www.dynamicoffroad.com/Baja-Topo-Software_p_269.html
