GEN 2 Has anyone Coyote swapped a Gen 2?

I think you're missing the point... Start with a coyote truck for $25,000 less. Swap on aftermarket CF fenders and whatever body parts you want. Aftermarket mid-travel suspension and a wider axle with lockers and gears. Engine HP is cheaper on a 5.0 so big HP is cheap and easy. Pick your wheels and tires... What's missing besides a terrain knob for drivers without talent?

but then also the rest of the drivetrain. The biggest issue would be things like ABS, that even a good driver finds handy. I'm sure ABS could be figured out on the F-150 once you swap the rear for a currie.

The suspension bits difference is immaterial because you'd pull the stockers off anyway.

there are other little things that could make a difference for the non-extreme build, but if you're gonna go whole hog, an f-150 is a great platform.

As far as resale, it would only really matter if you were building a brand new truck to sell as brand new. once they both get driven, its an even playing field. maybe even tilting towards the f-150 due to the bigger power.

I agree with everything except the resale vale; the raptor has and will always sell for more apples to apples. Unless you bought one with 15000 on it and someone else took the hit which would off set the end sale that is inevitable be it 1 or 10 yrs down the road.

I spoke with my Ford engineering friend along with a mod motor guy I've known for a while and after brainstorming, I'm going to start gathering parts in hopes for a mid winter swap.

At this point, I'm debating on going with a complete Gen 3 Coyote or doing an aluminator short block with the Gen 3 heads/cams as I need to keep the direct injection.

Yes, I will lose those drive modes that I never use, but beyond that, everything else will work.

On a side note, anyone know what a 3.5 Raptor Ecoboost MSRP's at from Ford?

I really like your idea of running the aluminator short block with the latest Coyote heads. With that short block and a Gen 3 3.0 liter Whipple you could make a ton of power. I don't think 1000 horsepower would be out of the question.

You thinking the 9.5:1 CR version?

I like the way this guy rolls. I would trade drive modes for a V8 in a heartbeat. Anybody want to buy my Ecoboost? :D

Nobody has done it. I don't think it can be done 100%. I doubt anyone will be able to make the Raptor's electronic "stuff" work with a different engine and PCM. Even if you figured out the hardware changes, the dealer won't/can't do the software changes with IDS- and I know Forscan cannot make the vast amount of software mods needed. So it's full on custom software at that point- good luck with that. Best thing to do is get a 2018 5.0L 4WD and convert it as much as you can into a Raptor.


We can do it. We have a ford IDS.

I didn't think Ford IDS allowed the code changes needed. I've been told IDS is locked down pretty tight as to what can be changed. Isn't it pretty much "choose from this list of options" and that's it? Can you manually enter Hex values into all of the computer modules with IDS?

And in the end, can you really do it legally in California? Given all the emission requirements? I'm sure you are quite aware of the lawsuit that SCT owners just got hit with.
