I keep wondering, so have to ask, if anyone knows...

What prompted the three grill lights?

What is the reason or origin?

Don't think I have ever heard what they are supposed to do, represent, or why.

I am sure that I will feel even dumber than usual when someone explains, but gotta ask.

They are DOT required in certain states when a vehicle goes beyond a certain width. Same as the cab lights on the roof of super dutys.

Yes DOT required at a certain width so all these standard trucks and 4 runners that don't have a a wider stance are just wannabe's copying the great look of the Raptor.

i believe any vehicle over 80 inches wide needs the marker lights.

I was just commenting about this with the new morimoto 3rd brake light for the f150. Never heard of anyone being pulled over for it though.

I guess it will depend which officer decides to inquire on your 3rd brake light.

I assume it doesn't matter if they're across the roof or across the front of the truck, as long as all 5 are visible from the front and rear?
Sure started a trend with the three grill lights, that's for sure.
