Hi Y'all
Here is a set of pics from our last trip to Big Bend a few weeks ago...
You'll find a very good description of dirt roads and a map on the official national parks site:
http://www.nps.gov/bibe/planyourvisit/primitive-dirt-roads.htm
We drove many trails without problems, and experienced great landscapes.
- Old ore Road (a bit rough, don't be afraid of scratches as the road is narrow at some places)
- Glenn Spring Road (driven up to River Road East)
- River Road East (driven up to Mariscal Mine)
- Old Maverick Road
Note that many trails are 1 lane wide and should be driven slowly. The (road) speed limit inside the park is 40 mph.
We did not drive Black Gap Road which is supposed to be the most "extreme" trail (no time at the end of a day). We talked on the trail to a guy with a pretty stock grand cherokee (WJ) with good tires, who said it was fine.
For those who like to hike we absolutely loved the Santa Elena canyon river access.
Other lessons learned: glad we had compressor fridge in the bed... and the bed with a bakflip
cover is not dust proof at all, I'll have to install some tailgate seal 1 day...
I'll try to post additional pictures in this thread as one post is limited to 5 pics...:lock:
Enjoy !!! :thumpsup2:
And yes: why do I say the Raptor is gray... Look at the pics (it may even have been white after a week)
