grabbing switched power from roof console AUX1?

I do allot of Highway driving to work and want to add radar detector, Why cant i grab power from Aux1 switch at roof console? has anyone done this? any info would be great..

the wires at the switch are only designed to power the relays. trying to tie into the wires there will most likely result in a blown switch panel.

Look in your owners manual, it tells you how to wire up to the switches. Or do a search on here.

We have two 15 amp, two 10 amp, and two 5 amp switch circuits. Aux 1-4 are the 15 and 10 amp and share the same wire size (20ga?). Aux 5-6 are only 5 amp and have a smaller wire (24ga?)

Check the amperage of your detector and then use the smallest circuit that has enough amperage. I would bet you could use Aux 5 or 6.
