Quick update. Got some miles on some rough stuff today and they are much smoother than the old ones. Truck feels more planted at higher speeds and the low speed pasture driving is not as harsh. So far I’m happy.

Also, had a good morning hunting. My daughter got her first deer ever. Decent 2 year old 8 point. 20 yard shot with a crossbow.

I will add that I was also seeing some uneven wear on the inside of both front tires which I thought was another indicator that the shocks were needing to be rebuilt. In fact if it wasn’t for that I probably would have pushed the old ones for a while. I think I caught it soon enough that no significant life was lost on them but it will take some miles to find out.

With 12k miles, I am already dreading this.
I will not be swapping mine for someone else's.
I will will have my shocks rebuilt.
As the Raptor is my only vehicle, the challenges abound.
New take offs are like $600? But a set now, swap when you need a rebuild. Rinse, repeat.

Okay, I just crossed over 55k. Started to notice harder hits on smaller bumps. May be time to freshen things up. I know someone started a thread and swapped in some takeoffs from a 2020 on a pre 2019 with a few extra parts to bypass the "live" valving.

Does anyone have any feed back on doing this? 1 guy replied to the other thread, but he also leveled the front at the same time, so negates his findings, and OP checked out. Ideally, the bypassed 2020 takeoffs would ride as smooth as my 2018 did when new.

Looks like 2020 takeoff shock sets are about the same price as the exchange program, plus they come with the front springs still installed.

If you’ve got new Raptor money then buy a spare new set now so you don’t have to be out a truck while you wait for your originals to be rebuilt.

I went with used stock Gen 1 (I have a Gen 1) shocks bought from a user here and had them rebuilt by Texas Shock Works and could not have been happier.

You never know though...if you’ve got the money go new, if not then what choice do you have?

FWIW, I’ve had wear on the inside of both front tires even after multiple alignments. This is since new
What i do now is just flip the tires on the rims at the 25,000 mile mark and the truck will wear again on the inside but on the other side of the tire.

it’s worked for my last set and I will continue to do so. Normal tire rotations and flip at 25,000 miles.

I’m hoping to not fight alignment issues on this truck. I haven’t had it checked yet either so I don’t know if it’s contributing to the tire wear issue. In my experience both shocks and alignment can cause what I’m seeing. FWIW the truck drives perfect so if alignment is off it can’t be too bad.

I did come across a thread about this somewhere and consider this option, buying a new set of live valves and the installing a delete kit. Not sure how much the delete kit costs but if it’s more than $100-$200 it would still be cheaper to take the rebuild route unless you got the takeoffs really cheap which I guess is possible. I’m basing this off some quick research I did I saw takeoffs for $700 give or take.
