Is warn worth the money? That depends on what you are buying the winch for. Warn makes excellent products. They also have an extensive advertising campaign. How do you think they pay for that? I just don't think they are worth double the cost of the next guy.

The capacity of the winch should exceed your largest expected pull. Your call. If you ever go by yourself bigger is your friend.

You can use a strap to extend your pull. Not ideal but it can be done safely. Synthetic is absolutely worth it for safety. Ask anyone who has actually seen a steel cable fail. Anyone that tells you steel is safe has never seen a failure.

Thanks Slacker. I agree with you. Not worth double. There are too many other great options out there that offer the same warranties and quality. See this is why this place is so great the truth comes out haha. The only reason to go warn is for the m12000. I can't find anything else with synthetic over 100ft.

Defiently going synthetic and would it be smart to get extension lengths that the various companies sell? This would take care of the length.

I went with the x2o that RSIworks and Chris mentioned above. I could not see paying the warn price. Although I have had heard a lot of good things bout their service. I have to finish the write up on the WSI winch mount and winch install.

That seems to be the general consensus. I didn't realize that the smittybuilt was that popular. Its looking like that's what im leaning towards with a factor 55 on the end.

Orange looking forward to that write io.

I went with the Factor on the end of my synthetic cable also. As for more cable I wouldn't go with longer cable. The less cable you have on the drum the stronger pull the winch is capable off. A snatch block will help handle a tougher pull as well. Very handy if you need to make an odd angle pull too. If you watch the video from SnoBall that Joe references you will see my winch doing a complicated pull. Joe knows all about it, he was group lead and set it up. My truck was strapped to trees to prevent later movement, another Raptor to help hold it in place. Plus used a snatch block run across trail and strapped to another tree to get the angle right.

So I guess to answer your questions: Warn are great but my cheap winch worked too.
Higher capacity is better. 10,500 worked for everything I have asked it to do. Snatch blocks really help.
Wouldn't recommend longer cable. Winch extension cable helps reach out.

A few things to note regarding the synthetic winch line and length.

1) if you think you need more winch cable plan on buying a good extension. As Labraptor and Orangeaddict mentioned, the less line on the drum the stronger the pull can be. It comes down to rotational physics. With more line on the drum, the winch has to work harder to pull in the load. More line equals the further away the load line is from the drum. Check out some of the Warn winch guides.

2) synthetic vs cable. There are a lot of off-road magazine articles covering this topic. But since your gearing towards synthetic there are a few things to know about. A. You have to protect you cable. Buy some abrasion guards to put over your line for if and when it may come in contact with the ground, tree, or a rock. B. Buy a synthetic line repair kit. Viking makes a nice one and it will help with you factor55 installation.

Check out www.masterpull.com and http://vikingoffroad.com/ for some great products and overall good information.

OA he video of the jeep with his 3 snatch blocks was awesome an i hope i never have to do that.

Joe saw your video about the winch install and all i have to say HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. loved the music and the speed play, if i wasnt doing a bumper i would do that mount. The websites that you and OA gave are great and ive never herd of them but already more useful info.
