Since the dealer wants $510, I decided to do it myself... following the RPG video. Any other tips I should know before start wrenching? Swaybar has to be disconnected. Tie rod necessary?

Tie rod not necessary, even sway bar isn't necessary

Sway bar potentially let's the a arm drop further but not enough to make it worth it. Tie rods are completely out of the way. Just rent some spring compressors and go at it. Should take about 2 hours the first side and an hour the second

It should be a piece of cake. I waited about a year and had no problem. If you live in an area where they "salt" the roads, now would be a good time to protect the shocks. I wish that I had sprayed mine with plastidip clear. 55,000 miles on my Raptor and the shocks look like shit. Good luck!

Get a set of spring compression rods.
Jack up the frond end and remove the wheels.
Disconnect sway bar on one end.
Use the jack under one lower control arms and lift up to compress the spring.
Attach the spring compression rod and tighten them.
Use some rope or wire to secure the spring to the upper perch.
Lower the jack and push the lower perch up to expose the split ring.
Push the split ring up to the next groove.
At this time it is a good idea to spray things down with AMSOIL HD Metal Protector.
Rise the Jack and remove everything from the spring.
Lower the jack and repeat on the other site.
Reconnect the sway bar, mount the wheels, lower the truck, enjoy a beer and admire your work.

On mine the upper stickers where bunching up, so I trimmed them just enough to push the mount up. Not sure where your at but, I was able to rent the spring compressors from autozone for free. You just pay for them and when your done take them back and they refund your money.

Thanks guys! I will disconnect sway bar, leave the tie rod on...

My local store has the compressor on sale for $39.99, so I just bought it, thinking I might be able to help a fellow member in the future :happy160:

You're golden. My truck had gone 30K miles and 3 northeast winters before I did it. Absolute bear to get done but I'd do it all over if I had to. Mid perch is that good.
