Meh. I look at both a $50K cashier's check and $50K cash as $50K. Unless I was trying to hide money from the government, large amounts of cash is just an unnecessary PITA. More liability and hard to carry around. It would in no way cause me to shit my pants if I worked at a dealer.

Especially when crossing state lines. most state police agencies have the authority to seize cash amounts over 10K if they suspect drug trafficking.

yes, SUSPECT and they don't necessarily ever have to return it. tennessee is the most guilty of this.

I've done the cashier's check thing and had the check made out for $10K less than what I was actually willing to pay, that way I did't have to walk around with 100K or more in cash.

Not sure if you were talking to me but I never tried to charge the entire amount. BUT I have charged 5K for the last 7 cars and that is the max the dealership would allow.

Any amount of cash over 10K is reported to the IRS. So if one is trying to "hide" anything ya just got caught. If not, more power to you. I have put 40k to 60k along with a check on several purchases. No questions asked. A dealer I have had dealings with in Glenwood Springs Co.(Range Rover) told me they have many transactions where large cash sums are part of the deal. I guess its just how suspicious you look. LOL.

Hopefully your "cash" is in the bank. If that is the case I would work the best deal I could, and like many have said, then use Ford financing to get a cash back number. Go ahead and finance through them, then just pay it off in a month or so. Win Win for everyone. If you cash is "in hand" I would be nervous taking that in to the dealer for a multitude of reasons, a lot of which have been mentioned.

If everyone stuck to what they know, the forum wouldn't be very active. My response was more of a question than my assertion of fact. I've paid CC fee's at some point in time at small businesses, but not at a big business.

It's a sad world we live in. You are even required to report cash greater than $10k when traveling through an airport.

I would also reconsider paying cash, if your credit is good you might as well try to score a ~2% interest rate while you can. If you're able to put the ~80k to use in some form of investment

I agree. My interest rate was 2.9 and there are low risk investments that start at 3.5%
