My Raptor is a 2018 802a, early build date (Nov 2017), approximately 42K miles, replaced cam phasers in March 2020. No tunes, all stock. I rarely get on the gas in this truck, drive it pretty easy.

About July 2020 , approximately 10-20 seconds after start-up, a clicking noise starts. I remote start usually, so I am outside the truck to hear it. It doesn't make the clicking noise every time, but does it often. Videos posted below (hopefully I uploaded correctly to YouTube). This noise seems different to me than the cam phaser rattle. It also seems to get louder when the fast idle kicks on, I think this is due to the A/C being on when I remote start.

The truck has been at Max Ford in Harrisonville, MO for last 4 weeks. They can hear the problem on the videos, but say they cannot find any issues. It's been through several techs, a master tech and apparently was elevated to a Field Service Engineer. No codes thrown, no indications of problems. FYI, up until now I have no issues with the dealer, but recently they appear to have personnel issues and plenty of excuses for not solving this problem. This is where I bought the truck.

Obviously, I am pissed that my truck has been sitting at a dealer for 4 weeks with no solution.

I would appreciate anyone that can take a few minutes and listen to the videos, maybe offer some advice. Apologize for the stupid birds chirping the background, that's not my truck!

2nd video you hear it about 25 seconds after start.

I'm no expert here, just a guess, it sure sounds like an exhaust leak, maybe that waste gate problem others talked about or something along those lines? You would think a team of experts at Ford would of figured that out by now. 4 weeks, I would be a little upset. Is there another dealer close by for a 2nd opinion?

Yeah, I have 3 other dealers close by. I agree with you on the waste gate rattle. I even mentioned that to them, but I didn’t want to be “that guy” (know it all forum reader dude).

Sounds like wastegate rattle from the videos. There is a TSB for wastegate rattle on 2017 models, the TSB is 20-2016. The concern description in the TSB is “A rattle type noise from the engine compartment under various operating conditions”. It’s an straightforward fix, they just install a spring washer kit on the actuators.

Thanks FordTechOne, I was hoping you would weigh in. I will try a different shop and mention the TSB 20-2016, can't hurt.

There have been a lot of threads on the wastegate rattle, your mention of the TSB on this was the first potential "solution" I saw. Hopefully this will help out others.

Good videos, thanks for this, I've got the same issue but I beat on my truck regularly. I thought maybe it was me, guess it's Ford's issue

I had this same issue. They had my truck for 2 months! Only to say this was a normal sound! Ughh then about two months later the drivers side turbo blew. They replaced it and wouldn’t you know the sound went away. How ever the rattle is back. I may bring this TSB up to them and see what they say.

Well, mine is technically a 2018 built in late 2017. As far as I could tell the TSB was issued for 2017s. I assume it applies to 2018s also, but I can’t tell you for certain until I get it into the shop.

So this gets in the weeds, but I suspect it’s the problem...
I remote start, truck idles for 15-20 seconds and then either a fast idle kicks on (with A/C???) or a fan or something else causing engine noise to increase.
Anyone know what the secondary noise is after initial idle? That’s when the clicking starts.
Again, it all seems to lead back to videos I have seen (and FordTechOne’s note) to wastegate rattle.
Last few starts truck hasn’t made the noise - but weather here in KC is mild so A/C probably not kicking on.
